ABOUT SARAH HUME

About Sarah Hume

This is ‘Zia’, who lived at Luton Hoo,

drawn from her portrait in the ‘LadyZia’ suite.

I have had a continuous career in teaching, enjoying the company of all age groups and standards of ability. I studied at St. Martin’s School of Art before setting up my own design business. I have worked in fashion and fine art, and always been involved with students and sharing knowledge.

I have always loved the English countryside and landscapes and was emboldened by Turner from an early age. I make frequent visits to the Tate Britain and the Royal Academy to view Turner’s paintings, to see the beautiful colour, still so vibrant. I am inspired by his complex masterpieces and capacity for conveying the drama of the elements. His shipwrecks are suggested with excited movements of brush and colour across the canvas; you are engulfed by threatening sky’s and tempestuous, torrid waters.

I like to think that I encourage all my students to find their creativity and work following their own authentic values in art. All styles and abilities will be valued.

I am enthusiastic to help students find their hidden potential, so please do not be intimidated. Just come and enjoy each other’s company and the natural beauty of the surroundings.
